Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaking. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency the website which hosts videos and commentary analyzing depictions of women's roles in popular culture. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit site for education that investigates female representations in popular culture narratives - is created and directed by Sarkeesian. Destroying stereotypes about women are the main goals of her work. In addition, Sarkeesian explores the issue of specific harassment of women on the internet and other minorities who are left out. A graduate in social and political thought from York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after presenter and has presented speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She has been interested in the gender issue and feminist movements since a early age. In 2009, when she was in university, she created her Feminist Frequency website. The ambitious lady planned to create an online program that would examine the role of gender in games however, she was also the subject of an online harassment campaign. The attack did not deter her instead it was a boost to her determination as a feminist media critic. Her notable contributions to the feminist field were recognized by a variety of awards.
