Madekwe, a mixed race British-Nigerian child, was born to a family in South London. Her father and mother are both English. She attended The Brit School when she was 14 years old. In London she attended The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art where her acting degree was earned. She was on stage in several productions as a student like the King Henry V, as Princess Katherine and Wuthering Heights, as Catherine Earnshaw.
Madekwe began her acting career by starring in a movie titled Storm Damage. Since then, she's been a guest star in Teachers, Doctors, Casualty, and Drop Dead Gorgeous. Madekwe landed her first motion picture role in the Woody Allen movie Cassandra's Dream, opposite Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor. Following that success she was cast as Elisha in the one-off BBC Three drama pilot West 10 LDN which aired in 2007 and she also appeared in six episodes of Trexx and Flipside as Ollie. She was Bambi on The ITV2 series Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Madekwe also played the title character in How to lose friends & alienate people that was aired by Sony Pictures Entertainment in 2008. Her theatre credits include Little Sweet Thing by Roy Williams as well as Flight Path by David Watson.
Madekwe officially made her US debut on The Beautiful Life in 2009. The series aired only two episodes at The CW, and was later removed from the air. Ashley Davenport was her role in the ABC drama Revenge. Madekwe was in the episodes of the show's first two seasons as an regular. However, in May of 2013, it was announced that word broke that the actress would quit the show due to her appearance as a guest on the first episode of the series' third season.
